One sick kid on Valentine’s Day with a mama’s love….

Here’s my Valentine, six-year-old Mae

Yesterday, on Valentine’s Day, Mae had a fever. We were in bed, I had my laptop on my lap, trying to work. Ah, that’s why they call this thing a “laptop.” We were wearing matching red heart T-shirts, leftover from a sale purchase last year at Old Navy. I’m a sucker for this love-day, I’ll admit it.

As the single mom by choice of a boy and girl, I empathize with your doubts. But in the past few years I’ve been identifying myself less as a single mom, possibly because my kids are 7 and 9, so we and our acquaintances have become accustomed to our situation. With one in first grade and one in fourth, I see more and more of their classmates’ parents splitting, and gradually our situation becomes less unusual. I love being a single parent. My kids and I have a very intimate relationship.
